It is so gosh darn subtle…
The move of a MASTER…
The way they FLOW…
The way they coax…
The way they POSSES the HEART of the onlooker.
One day a little over 5 years ago I got an email from the MASTER that I hoped
to persuade to be my mentor.
He said to me…You must come to a get together Diane.
You must sit with GIANTS and observe them
For most of what you want to acquire can not be taught via phone (let alone webinar)
Most of what you want to posses is an attitude..a vibe…a BEING
And so I went…scared to death to sit at a dinner with a dozen powerful business owners.
Petrified that I would have a slip of the tongue and reveal that I was nothing more than a housewife.
I was sure that they would reject me…
But instead they embraced me and one by one they shared secrets and moves that had made them MILLIONS
But in the end it was still only the original master that I had traveled to see that interested me as a teacher.
Why???
Because he was the Master of the masters.
And what I didn’t know was that that evening was my AUDITION
The test to see if I had what it takes.
And he had decided that I did…and my lessons began the next morning.
And like a kid on the first day of kindergarten I showed up eager to learn and full of excitement.
And like a child..time and time again I was CORRECTED over the course of years until FINALLY I had acquired the code myself.
And today I am able to wield it.
I have been very successful and for this I am THANKFUL…
And I spend my days doing all I can to find the people that I can pass this along to.
So now for my advice to you dear reader…
Look for the subtlety…
Look for the masterful.
There will ALWAYS be young brash gladiators who will enter the field and conquer for a while.
They seem young, and sexy and successful…
But me…
I always looked for the old sage.
The one who had been in the game 10, 15, or better yet 20 years.
The one who had seen it all and had survived to tell the tales.
The ones with the WISDOM.
And the one who didn’t need to attract attention as they were power embodied.
This is so hard to understand for some…
Like I said..it is SUBTLE.
While I was going through my schooling I often asked why my master didn’t go for the ‘easy” money
Why he didn’t do a quick pitch or write a masterful sales letter as there are few who can do it quite like him…
I couldn’t understand why he would pass up such riches.
And he explained that when one TRANSCENDS the need to take money from people and moves into true STATEMANSHIP is when
his legacy will be secured.
If you KNOW you can attract a raving crowd on demand…there is no longer need to do so…
There is only need to SERVE.
And if you look around…
This industry has a lot of hot shots
A lot of big earners
A lot of “gurus”
But VERY FEW statesmen (this is not a gender specific term)
I can count them on both of my hands.
These people…and their faithful students
These are the ones that will teach you the CODE that lasts forever…
That will be here long after Facebook is gone (and I promise you that it WILL be gone someday)
What will you study in 2011?
It’s almost here you know.
In a blink of an eye.
What will you focus your efforts on?
A passing fad or timeless wisdom?
How to do a computer trick or how to get people to eat out of the palm of your hand?
The choice is YOURS…
But at least now you have an idea of the choices that sit in front of you.

Yes yes yes …Thank you Diane for believing in you and following your intuition to find and reach your mentor. You are a giant in your own right. You knew when to pursue and you also knew when to stand still and listen, when you found what you were looking for. The world is forever blessed because you did. I don’t ever have regrets, however I do wish I would have found my mentors (you included) sooner in my quest. I understand I had to be ready to stand still and listen. I know I had to go through everything I have in order to be ready. I am right where I belong and standing completely still and listening. Thank you thank you thank you.

I realise how blessed I was to know so many of these kinds of people growing up, and to observe just what you’re talking about here.
It gives you a sense of possibility and self-determination. You learn to think for yourself, and step away from the herd. It’s priceless. Having access to others who’ve walked the path and excelled in their field is such a precious gift. Thank you for sharing it.

What a great story you wrote Daine. There is nothing sweeter than the truth. Some people say they wished they found the right mentor sooner. But they have to credit themselves for knowing when they did find that right teacher. That shows they have a good sense about them.
Then they must become a great learner and use the knowledge they receive to do good and pass it on.
Powerful writing! It’s really great when one can internalize all of what you’ve written – it’s the beginnings of true wisdom.
When the student is ready the master will show …. oh how I love those words!

HUGH eye opener. I thought to myself years back when I started looking for help in my business. Why jump from teacher to teacher, and become the expert in every one of their philosophies and business building techniques if you can find the ONE who can move you like no other into becoming all you can be.

I saw this and at first thought I had heard it before. Then I let myself receive it’s message…..It moved me to a newer deeper place. I appreciate the way you can grant the reader a visual involvement . I am grateful for your tenacity & humility in subjecting yourself to an otherwise awkward circumstance in order to achieve your goal. It speaks volumes. You mean some clients and customers are smoother than others because they do not bring there emotional baggage to the transaction and the value you give them is not enough for their ego. They want to disect you as well as the product.
I have found that choosing clients & customers carefully is key. Some rejoice in you and your products (like me) and others want a pound of flesh (which your not selling, right) 😉
